SINGAPORE RIVER AREA The Singapore River area was the original area of
settlement. It was the place where Sir Stamford Raffles of the British
East India Company first landed in 1819 and founded the "trading
post" which grew into the modern City of Singapore. Warehouses line
the sides of the River. These old warehouses and nearby buildings have
been conserved and renovated. They are no longer warehouses but now function as restaurants pubs and
discos. |
